TBL Fire Protection Plant First Ever Community Tiny Forest in Coventry!

In early 2025, the passive fire protection specialists at TBL Fire Protection took a bold step towards sustainability. By partnering with Earthwatch Europe and Coventry City Council, we planted a Tiny Forest in a community space in Coventry. Although Coventry is already home to Tiny Forests, ours was the first ever Tiny Forest to be planted in a community space, bringing a greener, healthier future to local residents.

Located in Tarrant Walk, Coventry, a region previously lacking in natural green spaces, this project aimed to transform an underutilised patch of land into a thriving, eco-friendly sanctuary for the local community. Let’s explore this incredible initiative and the difference it’s making to the local area.

What is a Tiny Forest?

A Tiny Forest is an innovative initiative that focuses on creating biodiverse urban woodlands, usually the size of a tennis court, planted with a range of trees and shrubs to promote local wildlife and climate resilience. Tiny Forests offer an excellent solution to the growing need for green spaces in urban areas, effectively improving air quality, reducing noise pollution, and enhancing mental health and mental wellbeing. As a growing initiative, many schools in Coventry have supported the project, and now have Tiny Forests of their own. These schools include:

  • Corpus Christi School
  • Moseley Primary School
  • Provost Williams Junior School
  • Coundon Court Secondary School

With the local community in mind, TBL and our partners planted a whopping 600 trees and shrubs, transforming a previously underutilised space into a vibrant, eco-friendly haven.

Key Challenges:

Our community Tiny Forest initiative faced several challenges that required careful planning:

  • Tarrant Walk is located in an area of Coventry with limited green spaces, which made the project especially important for community development.
  • The lack of natural environments in the area meant we had to take a thoughtful approach to ensure the project would be well-received by local residents.
  • Soil conditions were uncertain due to potential contamination from wartime bombings, which required extra precautions.
  • There were some concerns about community reactions, especially from residents unfamiliar with to green initiatives in their area.

How Did TBL Solve These Challenges?

As trusted fire protection consultants, TBL is no stranger to overcoming obstacles with efficient solutions. Our dedicated team began by working alongside students from Pearl Hyde Community Primary School to plant the saplings and apply mulch to the area. The area was prepped with topsoil to mitigate the risks of soil contamination and allow for easy planting and healthy tree growth.

By collaborating with Earthwatch Europe and Coventry City Council, we ensured the project ran smoothly and met its environmental goals while also contributing to the local community.

What Were the Outcomes?

The community Tiny Forest initiative proved to be a huge success! TBL’s role in this project helped us solidify ourselves as a socially responsible and environmentally conscious fire protection services provider. Our logo now proudly adorns a commemorative plaque in front of the new Tiny Forest, marking our commitment to community engagement and environmental sustainability.

The project gained visibility through social media campaigns and the TBL website, with photos of the planting day shared widely. Local media outlets and Coventry City Council also acknowledged our involvement in transforming a neglected area into a thriving green space.
