As part of the new block development at Waseley Hills High School in Rubery, Tilbury Douglas recognised the need to find a specialist to complete the installation of the passive fire protection systems, they knew they needed a trusted partner to ensure optimal safety and compliance and they had worked with us on previous projects and tasked TBL to support when we tendered for the work.

The exciting new school extension which includes a Sixth form study room, Dining Hall, Sports Hall, Music Room, ICT Room and multiple mathematics classroom to mold the minds of the next generation. TBL knew we needed to ensure that the passive fire protection works would protect students, staff, and the building itself, all while meeting stringent fire safety regulations.
Tilbury Douglas enlisted the help of TBL Fire Protection after we tendered the project, to carry out the comprehensive list of fire stopping challenges, and ensure that all installation had the backing of manufacturing tested details and that were all tailored to comply with the buildings fire strategy that would ensure the building’s integrity and safety – no matter the situation.

What Services Did We Provide?
Our team of fire protection consultants worked closely with the school to determine the most effective approach to support the overall build program. Here’s how we helped:
Intumescent paint application:
Our intumescent paint contractors applied a high-quality, fire-resistant coating to the school’s steelwork. When exposed to high heat, the paint swells to create a protective char layer. This helps ensure the steel retains its strength and prevents structural collapse during a fire.
Cavity fire barrier installation:
To prevent the spread of fire and smoke through hidden spaces, we completed cavity fire barrier installation. These barriers ensure that any fire remains contained within its designated compartment, giving occupants more time to evacuate safely while preventing damage to the structure.
Fire stopping:
As skilled fire stopping contractors, we sealed off gaps and penetrations in the building’s walls, floors, and ceilings. This vital step makes sure that fire, smoke, and toxic gases are contained, preventing them from spreading through the building while also ensuring compliance with fire safety laws.
What Were the Results?
TBL Fire Protection are still supporting Tilbury Douglas with the expansion of the new school block and once complete thanks to our expert installation of fire protection systems, Tilbury Douglas will be assured that Waseley Hills High School has a passive fire protection system that:
